YesAsia Editorial Description

A small town of just 500 people takes on an invading army of 20,000 soldiers in The Floating Castle, based on the Siege of Oshi in 1590 and Wada Ryo's historical novel about it. In a rare collaboration, directors Inudo Isshin (Josie, The Tiger and the Fish, Maison de Himiko) and Higuchi Shinji (The Last Princess, The Sinking of Japan) team up to tell this samurai-style David VS. Goliath story, about a young defiant town leader who refuses to bow down to the powerful Hideyoshi Toyotomi. Recalling some of the greatest period epics in Japanese cinema history, The Floating Castle has an equal balance of exciting visual spectacle, inspiring heroics, intriguing drama and over-the-top humor (courtesy of Nomura Mansai as the town's foolish, but brilliant young leader). The Floating Castle is grand, old-school cinematic entertainment!

Through his vicious war campaign, Toyotomi Hideyoshi (Ichimura Masachika) is nearly successful at uniting Japan. One of his final opponents is the Hojo Clan, which includes the Oshi Castle, ruled by Nagashika Narita (Nomura Mansai). Even though Nagashika often shows that he doesn't care for politics and prefers to spend his days with the local peasants, he decides to defy his allies' advice to surrender the castle to Toyotomi. With the help of trusted warriors Tanba (Sato Koichi), Izumi (Yamaguchi Tomomitsu) and Sakamaki (Narimiya Hiroki), Nagashika unites the town to take the invading army. While it appears to be a losing battle even before it begins, the town's new leader has a few tricks up his sleeves.
