Legendary filmmaker Zhang Yimou makes his first foray into Hollywood with the period fantasy epic The Great Wall. The China-U.S. co-production teams Matt Damon with Hong Kong superstar Andy Lau and Chinese actress Jing Tian (Special ID) in a spectacular battle against mythical monsters on the Great Wall of China during the Northern Song Dynasty. A massive undertaking involving over 1,300 cast and crew members from 37 countries, China's most expensive film ever made applies the auteur's visual flair and direction to a commercially minded action-adventure with a star-studded international cast. The Great Wall's sprawling cast includes award-winning actor Zhang Hanyu (Operation Mekong), Hollywood actors Pedro Pascal (Game of Thrones) and Willem Dafoe (Spider-Man), and a who's who lineup of young trending stars, including Lu Han (Time Raiders), Lin Gengxin (Sword Master), Eddie Peng (Operation Mekong), Huang Xuan (Blind Massage), Cheney Chen (Tiny Times), Zheng Kai (So Young) and TFBOYS member Karry Wang, in supporting roles.

Mercenaries William (Matt Damon) and Tovar (Pedro Pascal) have traveled the Silk Road to China in search of the valuable black powder that will bring them great fortune at home. While traversing the desert, they get attacked by a mysterious beast at night and manage to slay it. Soon after, the two come upon the heavily garrisoned Great Wall and are taken captive by the Nameless Order of the Chinese army. Led by General Shao (Zhang Hanyu), Commander Lin Mae (Jing Tian) and strategist Wang (Andy Lau), the extraordinarily disciplined Nameless Order exists solely to defend the Great Wall from the Taotie, creatures that rise from the earth every 60 years and attack in giant hordes. If the Wall falls, so too does China.
