Over 15 years after the blockbuster success of The Great Yokai War, Miike Takashi brings the sequel to the magical fantasy adventure, The Great Yokai War: Guardians! While The Great Yokai War was inspired by the 1960s Yokai Monsters trilogy, The Great Yokai War: Guardians also draws upon the legend of the warrior god Daimajin who was featured in the Daimajin trilogy. Child actor Terada Kokoro plays the young hero, while Sugisaki Hana and Osawa Takao portray yokai around him. The cast also includes Omori Nao, Ando Sakura, Oshima Yuko, Akaso Eiji, Miura Takahiro, Ishibashi Renji and Endo Kenichi. Kamiki Ryunosuke, who played the main character of The Great Yokai War, makes an appearance in the film as well!

Ancient fossils in the rift lowland of Fossa Magna have come together and transformed into a giant yokai monster – and it's heading for Tokyo! Neither humans nor yokai are safe from its advance. To counter this crisis, the yokai world decides to borrow the power of the warrior god Daimajin. The key to saving both worlds may lie in a weak human boy named Watanabe Kei (Terada Kokoro), who is a descendant of the legendary yokai hunter Watanabe no Tsuna. When Kei's little brother (Inomata Rei) gets mistakenly taken away by yokai, Kei heads to find Daimajin under the guidance of the mysterious yokai Fox-Faced Woman (Sugisaki Hana).

This edition comes with a Yokai Sugoroku game and a bonus disc of special features including making-of, special program, event videos, unreleased scenes, yokai encyclopedia and "The Great Yokai War Exhibition 2021" still image gallery.
