Based on a Chinese folk tale, the 1986 TVB miniseries The Lamp Lore stars Liza Wang, Simon Yam, Sharon Yang, Paul Chun and Lo Hoi Pang in a fantastical adventure full of romance and action.

After being cast out of the realm by the Jade Emperor, the slighted Great Demon God (Paul Chun) goes into cahoots with several other deities to stage a revolt. Surrounded by foes, the Holy Mother of Huashan (Liza Wang) uses the Lotus Lamp, the world's holiest treasure, to turn the tide. Fearing for his chances of success, the Great Demon God travels back to the time when the Holy Mother was still just a human, hoping to kill her before she attains holiness...

經典神話故事 寓意深遠 感人肺腑

天地初開，大魔神(秦沛)被玉皇大帝逐出宇宙，懷恨在心，遂收買天宮瑤池仙子(楊盼盼)，大舉進攻天庭。眾仙不敵，危急之際，華山聖母(汪明荃)以天地間至高無上的寶物寶蓮燈大敗群魔，力挽狂瀾。
寶蓮燈漸趨熄滅，聖母遂閉關重煉寶蓮燈。大魔神為殲滅聖母，派遣瑤池返回五百年前，消滅聖母的前身瓊花仙子(汪明荃分飾)。瓊花原為劇團團員，與兄楊戩(盧海鵬)相依為命，後遇上癡情書生劉彥昌(任達華)並相戀，因此放棄了修煉成仙的機會。

大魔神最終親自下凡，用魔法將瓊花壓於華山之下。聖母知道自己前身遭遇危險，派遣華山童子化為瓊花之子沉香下凡解救。沉香得仙人指引，上華山尋得仙斧劈山救母......

I remember watching this series as a kid and was totally obsessed with it. Now, more than 15 years later, I found and purchased it online. If you're an old school chinese folklore fan like me, I definitely recommended the Lamp Lore. Sure brings back the good ol' childhood memories of this show.
