YesAsia Editorial Description

Martial arts star Chan Koon Tai meets future action director Yuen Tak in the winning kung-fu picture The Master! Chan Koon Tai is kung-fu master Jin Tien Yun, who escapes from three diabolical killers, called the "Three Devils", with the help of meek kung-fu student Ko Chien (Yuen Tak). Since Ko Chien's master Shi is more of a poser than a fighter, Jin Tien Yun volunteers to help teach Ko in the finer points of real kung-fu fighting - in secret. Ko Chien blossoms as a fighter, but when Shi learns that Ko Chien has supplanted his training with that of another kung-fu master, he's expelled from the school! But the Three Devils arrive after Ko leaves, and take over the kung-fu school. One year later, Ko Chien returns to the school with only one goal: revenge! Director Lu Chin Ku and action director Hsu Hsia bring excellent martial arts sequences and a gripping storyline to The Master, and Yuen Tak and Chan Koon Tai provide the requisite kung-fu presence. Star Yuen Tak would go on to become an ace action choreographer, and a frequent collaborator of Corey Yuen Kwai and Jet Li!

Yuan Te, Jackie Chan's kung-fu classmate and Sammo Hung's fight coordinator on his Hollywood hit Martial Law, makes his acting debut in The Master as downtrodden kung-fu student Ko Chien, who saves the life of a kung-fu master ((Chen Kuan-tai), who is being stalked by three killers. Te's kung-fu skills rival Jet Li's, which is why Jet used Te as his fight choreographer in his Hollywood hits kiss of the Dragon and The One.

What to expect of a classmate Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
Have the DVD of this & it delivers exactly what you'd expect a classmate of Sammo, Jackie & Yuen Biao to. Some eye googling display of straight sword as well as a straight sword vs Kwan Dao at the end. Story is typical of that era with the usual comic relief of annoying elder kung-fu brothers. Enjoyable classic kung-fu flick through & through.

Classic Shaw Brothers Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
If you've never seen a Shaw Bros. movie the opening
scene will get you hooked. The obligatory fight scene at the Inn(started with the classic "Come drink with me") is nothing short of sensational, Chan koon Tai shows off his mastery of Kung fu as he battles the 3 devils. A priceless classic made even better by Celestial pictures. Go Celestial!

Marvellous kung fu flick Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
Yuen Tek (play the role as a martial art student) and Chen Kuan Thai (the master) are performing well. Yuen Tek skillfully depicts the essense of traditional kung fu with fun-filled and razor-sharp kicks and fists. No boring scenes at all throughout the show. 100% actions ! Those who like Jackie Chan's Drunken Master will love it too.
