Winner of Animation of the Year at the 41st Japan Academy Prize, The Night is Short, Walk on Girl is one of two feature films directed by visionary animator Yuasa Masaaki in 2017. Known for his idiosyncratic, free-wheeling style in acclaimed anime series like The Tatami Galaxy and Ping Pong, Yuasa brings a wild and dreamy alcohol-fueled escapade in his loopy award-winning feature. The team behind The Tatami Galaxy reunite for Night is Short, which is again adapted from a Tomihiko Morimi novel and employs a distinct animation aesthetic based on the designs of the novel cover illustrator Nakamura Yusuke.

Chockful of wacky humor, literary references and mind-boggling details, the strange odyssey begins with a university student (voiced by Hoshino Gen) following the girl in red (voiced by Hanazawa Kana) whom he is infatuated with. After a get-together, she walks off on her own in search of more alcohol. Time slows to a crawl as she meanders from bars to a book fair to a play over one long night, meeting various kindred oddballs along the way. Meanwhile, the hapless hero keeps losing his pants and stumbling into crazy situations as he tries his best to tail her.
