A father pulls off a minor miracle for his daughter in director Zhang Meng's Piano in a Factory. The critically acclaimed dramedy follows a recently divorced man (Wang Qian Yuan) and his efforts to build a steel piano with the help of his friends and neighbors in order to secure custody for his daughter. Even before production, Piano in a Factory attracted fans like My Sassy Girl director Kwak Jae Yong - who joined as producer - and star Amanda Qin (A Simple Life) even put up her own money to help Zhang finished the film. The result is a whimsical Soviet-influenced comedy that has been compared to the eccentric comedies of Wes Anderson by film festival audiences around the world. It was also nominated for seven prizes at the 28th Golden Horse Award, including Best Picture and Best Director.

When Chens estranged wife reappears asking for a divorce and custody of their daughter, the musician girl decides she will live with whoever can provide her a piano. Chens struggle thus begins. When efforts to borrow money and even steal a piano fail, Chen concocts a preposterous plan - he'll make a piano from scratch! He persuades a bunch of reluctant, but loyal, misfit friends to help him forge the instrument in a derelict factory from a heap of scrap steel. Though crude in design and tune, the factory piano awaits its first and final performance from his little girl.
