Before going on to become one of Japan's most celebrated animation filmmakers, Shinkai Makoto caught the attention of the industry with his animated shorts. Released in 2002, the OVA short film Voices of a Distant Star is an early work that sets Shinkai Makoto's style of sci-fi, youth romance and beautiful animation. Set in the future, the story follows childhood sweethearts Mikako and Noboru who are separated after Mikako gets recruited into the UN Space Army to fight in a war against aliens. The two communicate through email on their mobile phones, but as Mikako heads farther and farther into space, their emails take longer and longer to reach other.

Short.... but very Very sweet!

Never realised that this movie is only 30 minutes long when I purchased it. But what an amazing 30 minutes of anime!!! The story is about a pair of lovers separated by space and time. Touching with remarkable artwork and a great soundtrack and memorable ending.
A great one to watch with the missus :) |
