Four years after Confessions, director Nakashima Tetsuya makes a blood-drenched return to the big screen with The World of Kanako, an adaptation of the award-winning mystery novel by Fukamachi Akio. In one of the fiercest performances of his career, Yakusho Koji stars as a disgraced detective who is asked by his ex-wife to search for their missing daughter. What follows is an intense, twisted ride into the darkest corners of human nature. Nakashima once again delivers a full-frontal assault on the senses that will shock and awe audiences.
Fujishima Akikaku (Yakusho Koji) is a disgraced detective now living a sad existence as a security guard. One day, his ex-wife tells him that their daughter Kanako (Komatsu Nana) has suddenly gone missing. Carrying the delusion that finding Kanako would give him back the happy family life he once had, Akikaku goes on a reckless rampage in search of his daughter, harassing everyone around her for any information he can dig up. Soon, he discovers that Kanako's innocent image has only been a façade as he starts putting together a long list of her sins.
