Winner of the Grand Prize at the 48th Baeksang Arts Awards, the acclaimed 2011 SBS historical series Tree with Deep Roots (a.k.a. Deep Rooted Tree) is set during the reign of 15th-century monarch Sejong, the fourth king of Joseon. Coming to power in a time of great turbulence, King Sejong is widely remembered as one of Korea's greatest monarchs for his benevolent rule and his advancement of science, literature, and policy. One of his most lasting legacies is the creation of the Hangul script, which helped spread literacy among commoners.

Based on Lee Jeong Myeong's novel, Tree with Deep Roots revolves around a series of mysterious murders in the court in the days leading up to the announcement of the Hangul script. Han Suk Kyu delivers a commanding performance as King Sejong that won him the Grand Prize at the SBS Drama Awards. Jang Hyuk plays a guard who originally entered the palace to assassinate the king, and gets pulled into investigating the murders. Tree with Deep Roots also co-stars Shin Se Kyung, Super Junior's Kim Ki Bum, Hyun Woo, Jo Jin Woong, Yoon Je Moon, Shin So Yool, and Yoo Hyun Soo, and features special appearances from Song Joong Ki as the young Sejong and Baek Yoon Shik as King Taejong.

[シリーズストーリー]
オンとその一家を反逆罪で処刑する。シム家の使用人の息子のトルボクは、幼なじみのタミと逃げ出すが、途中で離ればなれになってしまう。月日は流れ、１４４６年。イ・ドが父を殺した張本人と思い込んでいたトルボクは、カン・チェユンと名を変えて、イ・ドへの復讐を胸に武官として宮中に勤務する。その頃、宮中では、イ・ドの文字創製事業に関わる人物が次々に殺害される事件が起こっていた。イ・ドから直々に事件捜査を任されたカン・チェユンは、その過程で王権を牽制する秘密組織“密本（ミルボン）”との闘争に巻き込まれる一方、文字創製事業の中核を担う女官で、幼い頃の記憶により口がきけないというソイが、タミであることに気付く。

Not Widescreen!! Customer Review Rated Bad 0 - 0 out of 10
Anyone buying this DVD set should know it is not widescreen, enhanced for widescreen TV's, anamorphic, or 16:9. For a 2011 Korean TV series that was shown on SBS-HD, I thought at least widescreen, it is not. It is 4:3, and the shots look funny. The aspect ratio and composition of the actors on screen are off. While watching on a widescreen TV, I had to change the settings on my TV to 4:3, instead of widescreen. Very disappointed that these DVD's are not widescreen. Really good show, bad visual presentation.
