YesAsia Editorial Description

Cherry Magic! Thirty Years of Virginity Can Make You a Wizard?! star Akaso Eiji takes his first primetime leading role in the NTV romantic comedy-drama series Turn To Me, Mukai-kun based on Nemu Yoko's manga Kocchi Muitte yo Mukai-kun. Turn To Me, Mukai-kun is written by Watanabe Mako (Muchaburi!) and directed by Kusano Shogo and Yoshinori Shigeyama.

Akaso Eiji stars as Satoru Mukai (Akaso Eiji), an office worker who has been hopelessly single since breaking up with his college girlfriend (Ikuta Erika, PICU) ten years ago. Something happened that created a rift between them, and Mukai still doesn't understand what went wrong. He's determined to fall in love again, but constantly misreads the feelings of potential dates.

Haru plays Sakaido Koki who gives Mukai advice on love. She develops a romance with her divorced colleague Tamada Kazuya played by Ichihara Hayato. Mukai's family members are portrayed by Fujiwara Sakura as his outspoken younger sister, Okayama Amane as his friendly brother-in-law, and Zaizen Naomi as his bright and strong mother. Also in the cast are Moriwaki Kenji, Naito Shuichiro, Uechi Haruna, Iwai Kenshiro and Wakabayashi Jiei as Mukai's colleagues.

This edition comes with a booklet and a bonus disc of special features including making-of, PR spots and more.

Ten years of singledom can make you clueless
It's hard to not get just a tinge of Cherry Magic deja vu from Turn To Me, Mukai-kun when Akaso Eiji appears as a fluffy-haired, thirtysomething salaryman who is trying to decipher his feelings and relationship status. Mukai-kun is slightly less panicky than Cherry Magic's Adachi, but no less sincere and self-analytical on his bumpy journey towards understanding love and himself. Based on Nemu Yoko's manga, the NTV comedy-drama takes a fresh approach to analyzing modern perspectives on romance and relationships through hapless hero Mukai-kun's encounters with different women.

Having been single for a decade since getting dumped by his college sweetheart, Mukai-kun is determined to find a girlfriend, but he's not quite in tune with the dating game. From mistaking a colleague's politeness as interest to deterring a crush by taking things too slow, Mukai-kun ventures into possible relationship starts with hesitant excitement – only for things to fall flat when it turns out he's cluelessly misread the situation.

After following Mukai-kun's experiences and thought processes during encounters with the opposite sex, the drama flips things around by revealing the same interactions and conversations from the women's perspectives at the end of episodes, at which point the audience sees how much he failed to see. Fortunately, Mukai-kun can rely on the brutally honest advice of Haru as his drinking buddy Sakaido Koki, who has her own philosophy when it comes to relationships.

Turn To Me, Mukai-kun is both funny and insightful with its Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus-ish mishaps and musings. Besides Mukai-kun's trials in dating, Sakaido's ambiguous relationship with a colleague (Ichihara Hayato) and the marital issues of Mukai-kun's sister (Fujiwara Sakura) and brother-in-law (Okayama Amane) also add more conflicts and conundrums to mull over. Presenting different values and viewpoints on romance, love, marriage and friendship with lighthearted humor and wholehearted candor, Turn To Me, Mukai-kun explores what relationships mean to different people, and what makes relationships meaningful in the end.
