Directors Iizuka Ken, Nagata Koto, Takuma Takayuki, Hara Keinosuke, Fujii Michihito, Yamagishi Santa and Ito Hidehiro tell eight stories of Unrequited Love in the romantic omnibus Zenin, Kataomoi. The inspiration for the film began with a themed talk segment on actor Kato Masaya's radio program Bang Bang Bang. After that, radio station FM Yokohama collaborated with Japan's largest online publishing community site E Everystar to look for novels on the theme of unrequited love. Four online novels selected from that project plus four more original stories were then turned into Unrequited Love.

Misaki Toru was once a popular singer, but he has sunk into drinking and depression since his wife left him. On his radio program, he starts a special project to share listener's stories of unrequited love for seven consecutive weeks. A popular young cast that includes Saitoh Takumi (Hirugao), Hirose Alice (Silver Spoon), Nakagawa Taishi (ReLIFE), Itoh Sairi (One Week Friends), Shimizu Fumika (Tokyo Ghoul), Chiba Yudai (ReLIFE), Shinkawa Yua (Blue Spring Ride), Shison Jun (Survival Family), Yokohama Ryusei (Kiseki: Sobito of That Day), Hashimoto Manami (Hamon: Yakuza Boogie), Mori Erika (Good Morning Call), Sakurada Dori (Orange), Kang Ji Young (Assassination Classroom) and Cross Gene's Terada Takuya star in the film's different stories.
