In 1963, con artist Nishiguchi Akira murdered five people and committed multiple cases of fraud before being captured by the police. He was hung for his crimes in 1970, and author Saki Ryozo wrote an award-winning novel based on the crime spree years later, attracting several directors' interests to take the story for the big screen. In the end, director Imamura Shohei won out, and the subsequent film - Vengeance is Mine - ended up being one of his greatest films. It couldn't come at a better time for the Japanese New Wave director in 1979, who stayed away from fictional narrative filmmaking for several years after the commercial failure of The Profound Desire of the Gods. Led by a bravura performance by Ogata Ken, Vengeance is Mine earned both commercial and critical success in Japan, winning multiple awards at the Japan Academy Awards that year.

Named after a quote from the bible, Vengeance is Mine follows the 78-day murderous rampage of Enokizu Iwao (renamed from Nishiguchi). Starting from the moment of his capture, his crimes are revealed through multiple flashbacks, from his brutal murder of two men in the woods to the rest of his violent journey. During his escape from custody, he takes on multiple identities in multiple cities across Japan, befriending potential victims before defrauding them for money. Things get even messier when he gets involved with an innkeeper and her mother.

This edition comes with a booklet, five photo cards and special features including interview with Imamura Shohei and trailers.

줄거리
과거 두 명의 남자를 잔인하게 살해하고 돈을 훔친 적이 있는 ‘이와오’는 오랜 도주 끝에 경찰에 붙잡힌다. 구치소에 갇힌 그는 반성의 기색 없이 담담하게 자신의 과거를 이야기하기 시작한다. 자신을 쫓고 있는 경찰의 수사망을 따돌리기 위해 유서를 남기고 투신자살로 위장한 그는 이후 대학교수, 변호사 등으로 자신의 신분을 속이고 살인과 절도 등의 잔혹한 범죄를 대범하게 저지르며 도피생활을 이어가지만 사상 최대 인원의 경찰이 투입되었음에도 그를 체포하는데 실패한다. 그러던 중 이와오는 ‘하마마츠’의 하숙집에 머무르게 되고 어느새 그는 하숙집 여자주인의 정부가 되어있는데...
