Miike Takashi lives up to his midnight movie reputation with the over-the-top, genre-mashing yakuza-vampire action comedy Yakuza Apocalypse: The Great War Of The Underworld. Every bit as violent and crazy as it sounds, the film stars Ichihara Hayato (Rookies) as young upstart gangster Kageyama who learns the hard way that the yakuza life is a far cry from the movies, especially when one suffers from a humiliating allergy to tattoos like him. He works under legendary mob boss Kamiura (Lily Franky, Like Father, Like Son) who seems near invincible in a fight – mainly because he is, in fact, a vampire. When Kamiura gets hunted down by assassins sent by an international syndicate, he transfers his powers to Kageyama who then begins to transform into a vampire. With his newfound powers, Kageyama sets out to avenge his boss. Narumi Riko, Takashima Reiko and Indonesian actor Yayan Ruhian from The Raid also co-star in Yakuza Apocalypse.
