In the usual breakdown of SM Entertainment artists and everyone else, Super Junior edged out labelmates EXO and Girls' Generation to take the top-selling K-pop album of 2014. SM artists occupied half of both the album and DVD top ten bestsellers, including the first three spots on both charts, and easily presided over the best-selling artists rankings. EXO was the top-selling artist overall for the second straight year, and Girls' Generation continued their unchallenged reign as the best-selling female artist.
Among newer names, GOT7 and BTS stormed into the top ten in a big way. GOT7's debut mini-album closed the year as our fourth best-selling album of 2014 (their second mini-album just missed the top ten at 11th place). Meanwhile, BTS emerged as the third best-selling artist overall thanks to robust sales across the board for all their albums. Infinite broke into top five albums for the first time, and B.A.P charted strong on both the album and DVD rankings.
Along with SNSD, 2NE1 and f(x) held down the fort for the ladies, making it the first time in a long while that more than two female artists have made it into our top ten K-pop albums. As a testament to their breakout years, AOA and Apink also joined top ten female artists for the first time.
The below rankings are based on K-pop sales on YesAsia.com from January 1 to December 31, 2014. Sales of all editions (including repackages) and versions (Korea, Taiwan, Japan, etc.) of the same title are summed up to determine the total sales. Only Korean-language releases are included here; check the C-pop and J-pop bestsellers for Chinese and Japanese releases by Korean artists.
