The below rankings are based on sales of movie, music and TV releases on YesAsia.com from January 1 to June 30, 2015. Sales of all editions and versions of the same title are summed up to determine the total sales and ranking of each title.
In what is fast becoming a yearly occurrence,
EXO tops our Chinese music chart in the first half of 2015. Perennial bestsellers
Jay Chou and
Sammi Cheng round out the top three, while young gun
William Chan makes an impressive showing at number four. Cantopop legends
Jacky Cheung and
Alan Tam take three spots in our top ten, and next-generation legends-in-the-making
Leehom Wang,
JJ Lin and
Jolin Tsai claim the remaining slots.
After temporarily ceding the top position to
Girls' Generation last year,
Arashi reclaims their spot at the top with the
Blast in Hawaii concert. The Johnny's group takes up two additional spots on the chart with their single releases, solidifying their reign as the top group in J-pop. Occupying six out of ten spots on the chart, K-pop stars like SNSD,
Infinite and
APink show that the Korean Wave is far from over.
EXO continues their reign on top and by a very healthy margin, thanks to the many versions of their
second album. The increasingly popular
BTS makes another leap forward, nabbing second place with their
third mini-album.
SHINee claims two spots with their
fourth album plus member
Jong Hyun's solo
debut. CNBLUE leader
Yong Hwa's solo
debut also charts high, along with hot sellers
Big Bang,
Shinhwa,
GOT7 and Super Junior's
D&E subunit. SM Entertainment's new girl group
Red Velvet is the only female act to crack the top ten.
All hail
Rurouni Kenshin. Not only did the live-action saga starring
Sato Takeru buck our usual trend of Chinese epics coming in first, it did so resoundingly with
Kyoto Inferno and
The Legend Ends taking the top two spots and the first Kenshin film from 2012 also returning to the chart. Wong Fei Hung reboot
Rise of the Legend and
Donnie Yen fightfest
Kung Fu Jungle hold down the fort for martial arts action and two animated family films, Hollywood's
Big Hero 6 and Japan's
Stand By Me: Doraemon, surprisingly break into the top ten.
Last year's best-selling TV drama
You Who Came From the Stars is also this year's top seller thus far. It's followed by other high-profile K-Dramas of the past year –
It's Okay, That's Love,
Pinocchio and
Fated to Love You – and three TVB serials including last year's top Chinese drama seller and Hong Kong ratings king
Line Walker. Fan-favorite romcoms
Cunning Single Lady and
Marriage Not Dating edged out bigger titles to chart, while
Doctor Stranger rounds out the list, making
Lee Jong Suk the only actor with two dramas in the top ten.
