KOREAN TV BESTSELLERS

Love in the Moonlight, the gender-bending period romance starring Park Bo Gum and Kim Yoo Jung, readily beat out other contenders to emerge as the best-selling TV drama of 2017. 2016's top seller Descendants of the Sun held strong at #2, while hot-topic fantasy drama Goblin settled for third place. As can be expected, dramas with top Korean Wave stars and K-pop idols were well-received, including medical drama Doctors with Kim Rae Won and Park Shin Hye, Startling By Each Step remake Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo with Lee Jun Ki and IU, action drama The K2 with Ji Chang Wook and YoonA, and fantasy romance The Legend of the Blue Sea with Jeon Ji Hyun and Lee Min Ho.

CHINESE TV BESTSELLERS

In line with current trends, the top ten best-selling Chinese dramas in 2017 were all mainland China productions for the first time. Gay youth romance Addicted, which ranked #2 in 2016, rose to #1. One of the biggest hits of 2017, the fantasy period romance Eternal Love starring Mini Yang and Mark Chao came in second. Other period and fantasy adaptations with popular young stars, like Mystic Nine, Ice Fantasy and Princess Agents, also ranked in the top ten. Meanwhile, The Empress of China, The Journey of Flower and Nirvana in Fire, which were in the top five in 2016, maintained their positions on the chart. Zhao Liying shows that she is indeed the queen of Chinese television with three dramas in the top ten.

JAPANESE TV BESTSELLERS

NTV's shojo manga adaptation Ani ni Aisaresugite Komattemasu starring Tsuchiya Tao romanced its way to the #1 spot for Japanese dramas. 2016's best-selling J-Drama, dTV's Attack on Titan spin-off Hangeki no Noroshi, stuck around at #2. KinKi Kids' Bokura no Yuki Miman City occupied two spots with both the 2017 sequel and the anniversary release of the original 1997 drama making the top five. As always, Arashi is represented with the Ohno Satoshi-starring special Kyo no Hi wa Sayonara coming in fifth, and perennial seller Itazura na Kiss - Love in Tokyo charted in the top ten for the fourth straight year.
