BEST-SELLING CHINESE MOVIES
Hong Kong action still holds a special place among Asian cinema fans. Manhunt, John Woo's highly anticipated return to the action genre, is our best-selling film of 2018. With its superstar team-up of Donnie Yen and Andy Lau, Hong Kong crime action drama Chasing the Dragon follows closely behind in second place. Zhang Jin vehicle The Brink, Wilson Yip's SPL installment Paradox, wuxia prequel Brotherhood of Blades: The Infernal Battlefield and Wu Jing's record-setting Wolf Warrior II are also all action entries, and Chapman To's karate-themed drama The Empty Hands sneaks into the top ten with hints of action. A Taxi Driver, Jang Hoon's award-winning blockbuster about the Gwangju Uprising, raked in over 12 million admissions in Korea in 2017, and it's our top-selling Korean film of 2018. Korea's biggest film of 2017-2018, Along with the Gods: The Two Worlds, comes in third after Real, the notorious psychological crime drama starring Kim Soo Hyun. Park Chan Wook's erotic thriller The Handmaiden charts in the top ten for the third consecutive year alongside a varied mix of star-driven films like Ryoo Seung Wan's The Battleship Island, buddy cop comedy Midnight Runners and romantic remake Be With You.1. Last year's #1 selling film, Shinkai Makoto's animated blockbuster Your Name, holds on to the top position amongst Japanese releases. Fellow anime entry A Silent Voice also stays in the top ten for the second straight year. Kitano Takeshi's final installment of his Outrage series comes in second, while blockbuster manga adaptation Gintama and Harada Masato's Sengoku epic Sekigahara share third place.
