BEST-SELLING CHINESE MOVIES

Wang Yibo soars to the top of our movie bestsellers in 2023 with the aerial action drama Born to Fly surging past Donnie Yen's wuxia actioner Sakra for first place. The popular idol's period espionage drama Hidden Blade with Tony Leung is also in the top five. Hong Kong's new box office king Dayo Wong has two blockbusters in the top ten Chinese films, including the record-smashing A Guilty Conscience. Mega Hong Kong boyband MIRROR continues to make their presence felt in cinema with members Anson Lo and Edan Lui's new films claiming three spots. Soi Cheang's gritty crime thriller Limbo and Philip Yung's period crime drama Where the Wind Blows round out the list.

BEST-SELLING KOREAN MOVIES

Japanese auteur Kore-eda Hirokazu's first Korean-language feature Broker, which gathers the star talents of Song Kang Ho, Kang Dong Won, Bae Doo Na and IU, is by far our best-selling Korean film of 2023. Crime and action fare occupies most of the top ten, including Special Delivery with Parasite star Park So Dam, all-star disaster action thriller Emergency Declaration directed by Han Jae Rim, and buddy action sequel Confidential Assignment 2 with Hyun Bin and Yu Hae Jin. Park Chan Wook's acclaimed Decision to Leave also makes the cut.

BEST-SELLING JAPANESE MOVIES

The top ten Japanese films of 2023 are evenly split between anime and live-action. Like Your Name and Weathering With You in years past, Shinkai Makoto's new fantasy anime blockbuster Suzume easily ranks first. My Beautiful Man -eternal-, the film sequel to the hit BL TV series, comes in second, while Cherry Magic! The Movie sticks around for another year at #6. Japan Academy Prize winner A Man is in the third spot, and the latest films in the Detective Galileo and HiGH & LOW series follow in the fourth and sixth places. Anime is represented by new features from the iconic One Piece, Doraemon and Mobile Suit Gundam franchises, plus eternal favorite My Neighbor Totoro.
