YesAsia Editorial Description

Wacky comedy filmmaker Jeff Lau (All For the Winner) directs Carry On Hotel, a madcap comedy filled top to bottom with Hong Kong stars! The setting is a five-star Singapore hotel, and the players and situations are too numerous to count. Kent Cheng is a seedy detective who sets up cameras to record an illicit affair. A hideously glam rock band checks into Kent's room, and gets a free show via his hookup. Meanwhile, silly thief Richard Ng Yiu Hong uses ninjitsu to fool the locals. Womanizing tour guide Eric Tsang gets stalked by not one, but two pretty women (Cherie Chung and Pat Ha). And Jacky Cheung is a lowly mechanic at the hotel who lusts after gorgeous executive Sunflower (Joey Wang). But his tomboy co-worker Cecilia Yip secretly pines for him. Director Jeff Lau keeps the zany laughs coming fast and furious, and manages to change things up with some slight dark humor, and even some sweet romance. Carry On Hotel is a packed pinata of a movie that takes numerous stories, stars, and emotions, and creates a fun and entertaining spectacle!

All's well that end's well Customer Review Rated Bad 6 - 6 out of 10
Nothing heavy, simply a fine selection of stars getting into various entertaining scrapes in a Singapore hotel. You'll probably enjoy the film most if you are a fan of the principal players - Kent Cheng & Charles Chin, Richard Ng, Eric Tsang and Jacky Cheung & Joey Wang - but the humour is obvious enough that it can be appreciated even if that is not the case; the four stories comprising 'Carry on Hotel' are quite varied, so no need to fear boredom through repetition; the last two stories are the strongest, with Eric Tsang's darkly humourous piece - he is a womanizer who finds himself in the clutches of the convincingly crazy and beautiful Cherie Chung and Pat Ha - perhaps the strongest, though the Joey Wang/Jacky Cheung/Cecilia Yip romantic tale that closes the film is also very effective in its portrayal of Jacky's infatuation with Joey - not difficult to understand - much to the consternation of tom-boy Cecilia (who manages to look good in dungarees and trainers). All in all, a pleasant way to pass 90 mintes. Finally, an aside - Kent Cheng's catch phrase in the opening story is 'Fu-k me' on the Cantonese sound-track; if you want to avoid this, listen in Mandarin.
