What makes a family? Directed by Narushima Izuru (Solomon's Perjury), Familia is a moving human drama about overcoming difficult circumstances to create a family that transcends cultural and nationality differences. Yakusho Koji leads the film as a craftsman whose lonely life is shaken by loss and change, while Yoshizawa Ryo plays his son. Familia also co-stars Lucas Sagae, Fadile Waked, Miyavi, Matsushige Yutaka and Sato Koichi.

Widowed potter Kamiya Seiji (Yakusho Koji) lives alone in a mountain village. His only son Manabu (Yoshizawa Ryo), who works as an engineer in Algeria, comes to visit with fiancé Nadia. Manabu wants to quit his job and take over the family pottery business after getting married, but Seiji objects. However, tragedy strikes when Manabu and Nadia return to Algeria. Meanwhile, Marcos (Lucas Sagae) is a young Brazilian resident who lives in a neighboring town. Seiji once helped Marcos when he was being chased by thugs, and Marcos becomes interested in pottery work afterwards.
