YesAsia Editorial Description

Over-the-top gunplay fans rejoice! The last fifteen minutes of A Better Tomorrow II, the sequel to the seminal Heroic Bloodshed film A Better Tomorrow, contains some of the most deliriously over-the-top guns and guts action ever put on film! Director John Woo outdoes his hyperkinetic gunplay from the first film, as he reunites Ti Lung, Leslie Cheung, and even Chow Yun Fat for this entertaining and dramatic sequel to one of the most popular Hong Kong films ever. When we last left our heroes, Ho (Ti Lung) was thrown in jail for his triad activities, but the courts grant him lenience for his righteousness. He's released to infiltrate the gang of suspected bad guy Lung (Dean Shek), who's currently being investigated by Ho's brother Kit (Leslie Cheung). But circumstances go sour, and Ho turns to an unlikely ally: former killer Ken, who's the twin brother of Chow Yun Fat from the first Better Tomorrow! With the pieces assembled, it's time for righteous retribution as only John Woo can deliver! Triad melodrama and John Woo's celebrated themes of brotherhood permeate A Better Tomorrow II, an entertaining and action-packed hit with an unbelievable body count.

Brotherhood gangster film Customer Review Rated Bad 9 - 9 out of 10
The sequel to a better tomorrow, sees the continuation of the themes John Woo (Yu Sum) expressed in the first film. The action takes place in HK and New York, and Chow Yun Fat says some very funny lines in english, in a restaurant scene. Basically Ho (Ti Lung) is on remand, and offers to go onto a case of his police brother Kit, as he feels its too dangerous for him. Ken, Mak Gor's brother from the last film, is running a chinese restaurant in New York. Ho was serving time when he found out kit was gonna infiltrate a ship yard ran by Lung (Dean Shek) Lung was present at a murder, so Ho smuggles Lung to New York. The Mafia, sent by Ko in HK, who has taken over the shipyard from Shek, stars a shootout, and Shek goes insane temporarilly, after witnessing it. Ken, and Lung return back to Hong Kong, and team up with Ho and Kit to avenge the death of Lung's daughter at the hands of triads. It comes down to the explosive climax.

Could Have Been Better Customer Review Rated Bad 4 - 4 out of 10
A disappointing sequel to ABT1 made just to capitalize on the huge success of the first film. ABT2 has a few decent moments of humor, drama & acting but a lot of it was also mediocre or overdone. There are some gigantic plot holes & logic flaws. Moderately entertaining but its all been seen before. Doesn't hold up too well with the passage of time. Chow Yun Fat's rice eating lecture to the mafia thugs was hilarious though.

not as good as the original Customer Review Rated Bad 9 - 9 out of 10
Great secuel for even a better movie (a better tomorrow), just the final scene worths watching the movie. The deltmac dvd has few problems of desync with both cantonese and mandarin tracks, but it's just a few ms, imperceptible for non-professionals.
