Malaysian filmmaker Sam Quah, who directed the 2019 crime mystery Sheep Without a Shepherd and episodes of the Detective Chinatown web series, continues to bite into the crime suspense genre in the 2024 Chinese blockbuster A Place Called Silence. Filled with twists and turns, the provocative revenge suspense thriller stars Francis Ng, Wang Chuanjun (Dying to Survive) and Ning Chang (The Soul), as well as Wang Shengdi, Xu Jiao, Justin Huang, Cai Min and King Shih Chieh.

Junior high school girl Huijun (Xu Jiao), who is a longtime victim of school bullying, falls to her death. The violence continues with her best friend Xiaotong (Wang Shengdi) becoming the target. But soon the bullies are killed one after another. As police detective Dai Guodong (Francis Ng) investigates the serial murders, various suspects emerge: Xiaotong's mother Li Han (Ning Chang) who witnessed her daughter being bullied, a school staff (Wang Chuanjun) who seems to know everything but acts indifferent, and a mysterious young man (Justin Huang) who lurks in the shadows. Behind the dark crimes hide darker secrets.
