K-On! director Yamada Naoko and studio Kyoto Animation adapt Oima Yoshitoki's acclaimed manga A Silent Voice into a beautifully poignant animated feature about two lonely youths and their struggle for acceptance, redemption and friendship. In elementary school, Shoya cruelly bullies classmate Shoko, who is hard of hearing, to the point that she has to transfer away. After his actions come to light, the friends and classmates who had condoned his actions turn against him, and he becomes the outcasted one. Losing hope in life, Shoya begins to see all people with an "X" over their faces. A few years later, on the day he planned to kill himself, high schooler Shoya re-encounters Shoko. Carrying the guilt of his past, he tries to make amends with the shy girl and forge an unlikely friendship.

【あらすじ】
ガキ大将だった小学6年生の石田将也は、転校生の少女、西宮硝子へ無邪気な好奇心を持つ。
自分の想いを伝えられないふたりはすれ違い、分かり合えないまま、ある日硝子は転校してしまう。
やがて五年の時を経て、別々の場所で高校生へと成長したふたり。あの日以来、伝えたい想いを内に抱えていた将也は硝子のもとを訪れる。
再会したふたりは、今まで距離を置いていた同級生たちに会いに行く。止まっていた時間が少しずつ動きだし、ふたりの世界は変わっていったように見えたが――。
