Directed by Tseng Chen, the Taiwan film Because of You breaks hearts with the touching story of a mother and daughter played by Pipi Yao (Partners in Crime) and child star Chen Pin Hsuan (A Thousand Goodnights). Five-year-old Xing Xing (Chen Pin Hsuan) has a mom who's a bit different than other kids' moms. Like a child herself, Xiao Qing (Pipi Yao) loves to smile and loves Xing Xing. Mother and daughter seem to pass each day in a chorus of "thank yous" and "sorrys" as they struggle to get by in a world that often doesn't understand them. When Xiao Qing and Xing Xing encounter some troubles, their story attracts media attention, and Xiao Qing's past gets exposed. Social services step in to place Xing Xing in a foster home, but this arrangement that seems best in other people's eyes is the worst outcome to the mother and daughter. Faced with pressure and discrimination, Xiao Qing decides to escape with Xing Xing but where can they go?
