Nick Cheung and Richie Jen face off in the crime thriller Bodies at Rest, the opening film of the 2019 Hong Kong International Film Festival. Reuniting 15 years after Breaking News, Cheung and Jen pull no punches as a forensics expert and a criminal locked in a cat-and-mouse game. The high-concept actioner is helmed by Die Hard 2 director Renny Harlin, who continues to bring his brand of action to Chinese cinema after Skiptrace and Legend of the Ancient Sword. Popular mainland Chinese actress Yang Zi from Ashes of Love also co-stars in the film along with Hong Kong actors Carlos Chan, Ron Ng and Roger Kwok.
Forensic pathologist Nick Chan (Nick Cheung) and intern Lynn (Yang Zi) are working the late-night shift at a morgue on a lonely Christmas Eve. Suddenly, three masked intruders – leader Santa (Richie Jen), Rudolph (Feng Jiayi) and Elf (Carlos Chan) – appear at the lab to recover incriminating evidence from a corpse. With no one around to help them, Nick and Lynn fight back against the hardened criminals with all they've got over one very long night.
