Screened at the 2010 Pusan Film Festival, director Roh Hong Jin's subtle indie feature revolves around a teenage Boy growing up in the eighties. The coming-of-age family drama depicts life during an important time of change in Korea, illustrating the generation gap between those who experienced the military regime and social movements of the early eighties and a new generation that inherits a different, though not necessarily better course in life.

Middle school student Jin Woo (Yeon Joon Seok) has things tough dealing with a deadbeat alcoholic father (Ahn Nae Sang, Poetry), an angry sister (Ryu Hyun Kyung), and a long-suffering mother (Kim So Hee). His father talks big but returns home jobless everyday, while his mother toils tirelessly to support the household. To help out the family, Jin Woo finds a job delivering newspapers and befriends another paper boy, Chang Geun (Kim Dong Young), who teaches him the rebellious rites of adolescence.

1988년 겨울. 중학생 진우(연준석)는 술주정뱅이에 만년백수인 아버지(안내상)와 그런 가장에 대한 불만으로 가출을 일삼는 엄마(김소희), 그리고 매사 제멋대로인 고등학생 누나(류현경)와 바람 잘 날 없이 살고 있다. 홀로 생계를 꾸리는 엄마가 안쓰러워 신문배달을 시작한 진우는, 신문배급소에서 악착같이 돈을 모으는 ‘독고다이’ 소년 창근(김동영)을 만난다. 진우는 창근에게 담배와 술, 여자 다루는 법을 배워가며, 세상 사는 법을 체득하기 시작한다.
그러던 어느 날 진우는 술집에서 일하는 엄마를 목격하고, 아무것도 모르는 창근은 진우의 엄마를 여느 작부들처럼 조롱한다. 하지만 진우는 그녀가 자신의 엄마라는 걸 말하지 않는다. 달콤했던 유년기를 지나 세상이 창근의 말처럼 정글이란 걸 깨닫는 진우. 가출했던 아버지가 일여 년 만에 집으로 오지만 그를 반기는 사람은 이제 아무도 없는데…
