  • What are the differences between Japanese PS2 and the Asian PS2?
  • The Japanese and Asian PS2 consoles are essentially the same, though there are a few key differences:
    Official License Holder 1. The official license holder for the Japanese PS2 is located in Japan, while the official license holder for the Asian PS2 is located in Hong Kong.

    2. Voltage and Plug
    The Japanese PS2 features a 2-pin flat-plug, while the Asian PS2 features a 3-pin plug. Both consoles run at 100-240V.

    3. DVD Playback
    The Japanese PS2 is coded for Region 2 DVD playback, whereas the Asian PS2 is coded for Region 3 DVD playback. Each console is intended to play DVDs coded for their specific region. However, DVDs marked as "ALL" or "Region 0" are playable on both consoles.

    4. User Menu
    The User Menu for the Japanese PS2 is in Japanese, while the Asian PS2 Console can be switched between Chinese, English, or Japanese User Menus.

    NOTE: Despite the above-mentioned differences, the Japanese PS2 and the Asian PS2 are compatible with each other's games. Asian Version PS2 games can be played in a Japanese PS2 and vice-versa.
