Veteran Taiwan comedian Zhu Ge Liang officially became the King of the Taiwan box office with David Loman, a light, boisterous comedy that also marks the directorial debut of longtime television producer Chiu Li Kwan. The popular star takes a dual role, playing a powerful gang boss and a local shop owner who is forced to become his decoy. Speaking almost entirely in the local Taiwanese dialect in the film, Zhu fires on all comical cylinders, barraging the audience with hilarious verbal gags that tickled Taiwan audiences. The film’s local touch clearly satisfied its home base, who not only made David Loman the surprise hit of the 2013 Lunar New Year period, but also one of the top grossing Taiwanese films of all time with a domestic gross of over 500 million New Taiwan Dollars.

In the 1980s, cameraman Ta Te (Zhu Ge Liang) moves to Taipei from the countryside for work. While working for a gang boss, he unwittingly becomes the man in charge after accidentally setting off a major shootout that took out the rest of the gang. Renaming himself David Loman, Ta Te would stand at the top for over a decade. However, the price of Loman's fame and power is losing his relationship with his daughter Chin (Amber Kuo), who has since become resentful of her father's power. When a Feng Shui master tells Loman to stay away from the crime world for a few days, he decides to find a local shop owner who resembles him (Also Zhu Ge Liang) to switch places with him. At the same time, the son of Loman's former boss, Pinch Junior (Kan Kan), has returned to Taiwan looking to take over the gang. After Pinch Junior's man assassinated the decoy boss, the real Loman decides to team up with the dead man's son (Tony Yang) to seek revenge and get rid of his enemies once and for all.
