冷たい風が吹き荒れるフランス・ブルターニュ地方の小さな町。かつて愛する妻を自動車事故で亡くしたことで神の道へと進んだシモン・メディユ神父。いつものように風の強いある日、丘の上に寂しく建つ彼の教会に一人の男が彼を訪ねてやってきた。フランシスコと名乗るその男は、シモンに告げる。「私はあなたの妻の夫です」。衝撃の告白を聞かされたシモンは仰天するが、フランシスコの言葉は嘘ではなかった。再びシモンの前に現れた死んだはずの妻は、「あなたに愛されるために再び来た」と語る。
