Winner of Best Film, Best Actor and Best Cinematography at the 20th Shanghai International Film Festival's Asian New Talent Awards, Malaysian social drama Shuttle Life realistically depicts the lives and struggles of the poor and marginalized. Malaysian actor-singer Jack Tan and veteran actress Sylvia Chang star in short film director Tang Seng Kiat's haunting feature debut about a young man pushed to the limits by the poverty, mental illness and tragedy that befall his family.

Qiang (Jack Tan) lives in low-income housing with his younger sister Shan (Angel Chan) and his mentally unstable mother (Sylvia Chang), who must be approached with care. Shan is the only bright spot in Qiang's difficult life of shuttling around trying to make ends meet through odd jobs and petty crime. Then, tragedy strikes on Shan's birthday. Qiang loses his beloved sister to a motorcycle accident. At the hospital, he faces another uphill battle when he is unable to identify or retrieve her body without documentation.
