Professional Review of "Evolution (Limited Edition)"

September 9, 2003

This professional review refers to Evolution (CD + Poster)

Evolving Twins: "Evolution" ~ Twins

Twins, still the HK's hottest and most dominant idol group since they rose to fame two years ago, stand the test of time. The extremely popular group keeps taking the city by storm time after time, album after album. Not before long was their first-ever kid songs album "Singing in the Twins Wonderland," now the amazing Twins are back again with their mature new album "Evolution".

The album name says a lot for the two young ladies' determination to ambitiously evolve into the next stage of their performance career. This release offers you 10 all new hits with a wide music spectrum, ranging from tender Waltz melodies to peppery Latin dance specials, from Bossa Nova to R&B! "Evolution" is truly an album of deep sincerity. Yet, not every sincere, new try is successful.

Charlene and Gillian's hard work is already paying dividends as their performing skills have been noticeably improved through songs like "Girl College Boy" and "Tutorial School of Love", though they are still far from being real decent singers.

"Tell Me You Love Me" (Track#2), heavily broadway-flavoured and a bit past-cherishing, is quite an unprecedented attempt for Twins. Their performance is funny and do deliver an interesting piece of work. The lingering music of "Panic Holiday" (Track#3), which is calming, unperturbing and one of the best songs in the album, originates from Bossa Nova in Brazil.

Twins has had probably too many dynamic, up-tempo songs that "Wild Summer" (Track#6), the like of those, is no longer unusual and surprising. The important thing is, the music does "make a summer" and, together with Twins' energetic performance, they make it a song of comparable worth. As regards other pieces, neatly composed and written "Hong Kong New York" (Track#8), refreshing "Steaming Yoga" (Track#7) and advertisement theme song "Gone With The Wind" (Track#1) all worthy of listening to.

Actually, Twins have made several bold trials in various musical genres which are set to have positive impacts on both themselves and the local music industry. Positive impacts on the two young ladies because it is an universal rule that everyone simply, has to move on as time passes by.

So do Twins. Otherwise, they will be left behind but by having explored different area in performing music and "evolved" along the way, Twins have succeeded in topping all local groups and might have a chance to last longer than others. The present reviewer also thinks there could be positive impacts on the local music industry because, as a local columnist once said, Twins have far greater impact on youngsters than they seem to. If fans are introduced to the ocean of true music and then start to look for diversity, that will be a good news for composers and music writers as they will then be freed to create music, at will, of their own.

Recommendations: "Tell Me You Love Me" (Track#2), "Panic Holiday" (Track#3), "Hong Kong New York" (Track#8), "Steaming Yoga" (Track#7)

Hnngg! It`s STUCK... Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
...in it`s own box! I could not get this CD out...then I could not get it back in! ENOUGH ALREADY! What`s so terrible with regular CD cases, I`d very much like to know?! More to the point, a very solid album. I can understand why some people would compare it to Samba. Still, in my opinion, Samba is a better album thru and thru, more relaxed, not so ambitious that it sometimes sounds a bit forced...but only a bit. Almost all the songs are great, all the songs are worth owning. I`m glad I bought this and would recommend it even to the casual Twins - fan.

A Lot of Fun Songs and Genres Customer Review Rated Bad 7 - 7 out of 10
I'm no TWiNS fan, but I'd have to say this CD is really fun to listen to, but nothing is great if you're really picky about vocals. Because these girls have no vocals, they just use their talking voice to sing...but with the abundant money and song writers for them, sure, why not like this CD just for that? They're just cute, nothing BIG.
