YesAsia Editorial Description
Having just recovered from a serious accident in Taiwan, Alice (Alice Tzeng) flies to Hong Kong to attend the memorial of her late ex-boyfriend Wilson (Kelvin Kwan), who passed away in an accident the same day she was injured. Suffering from amnesia, Alice hopes this trip and memorial will help her recover her lost memories and sense of self. With the help of Wilson's friend Andy (Andy On), Alice slowly pieces together her relationship with Wilson, from their first encounter to the painful breakup. Andy clearly holds a torch for her, but Alice finds it difficult to let go of a past she can't remember, especially when she is staying in Wilson's apartment. Between the shadows and footsteps, she can feel that Wilson, or someone, is in the apartment with her.

Product Information
ALICE (Alice Tseng) returns to Hong Kong from Taiwan with great sadness. Two weeks ago, Alice's boyfriend ANDY (Andy On) passed away in an automobile accident. A month before the accident, Alice found out Andy has been cheating and decided to break off their relationship. Alice never thought the day they broke up would also be the last time she saw him. Alice is back in Hong Kong after receiving an invitation for a memorial service that Andy's friends are holding in his memory. During her stay, she moves into Andy's home, their home. Alice is familiar with every table, every chair, every cranny and nook, but now, it's no longer theirs or Andy's, she spends her day retracing their past in pain.

There are a bit of mystery and twist to this movie.
Picture quality is very good for a DVD. Alice's acting is also very good. Recommended. |

I didn’t realize “Forgive and Forget” was directed by Stephy Tang/Alex Fong ‘love’ director Patrick Kong until I watched the English subtitled making of. Certainly a sharp divergence to PK’s previous outings “L for Love, L for Lies etc" though; this time relationship issues, memory loss and....ghosts! Although infidelity affairs familiar to Patrick’s previous films are evident, they are this time blended into a haunting, partially psychological and even pseudo Hitchcock style about Alice’s tragic accident, relationship woes and memory loss.
“Forgive and Forget” is certainly the director going somewhat Pang Brothers. With added surrealism, too, having odd camera angles, hauntingly colorful-lit rooms, spooky décor and some loud take you by surprise sound affects (sigh...watch that volume) for Alice's freaky memory moments. But although a ‘ghost’ movie as such this more relates to Patrick's fascination with young HK people’s relationship worlds of infidelity, deception games and heartbreak. There’s no malevolent ‘horror’ as the ‘terror’ is mostly Alice’s fractured and confusing memories, but there is some supernatural thrown in for good measure. The best way to describe “Forgive and Forget” is to imagine a Stephy/Alex romance satire brought into a weird supernatural world, with Alice Tzeng within this Love-Hinder-Land, struggling to remember her ‘dead’ boyfriend Wilson. But although Alice gets haunted (well sort of, nothing is what it seems), everything still points to crucial relationship games. In fact this film’s sad haunting style soon becomes gate crashed into a bright soap opera format when Alice’s friends appear (with Hotcha as Alice’s chums), showing the double contrast. Acting wise, Alice T is fab. She’s absolutely beautiful, too. But Alice’s iconic eye candy is supported by her cool performance and striking presence. Andy On performs the second lead well with a character who’s equally cool and slappable. Miki Yeung as an interesting part as Mandy, Alice’s neighbor tenant who features in an ironic conclusion. Mandy also seems to mirror Alice’s situation with her boyfriend Wilson. Although tongue in cheek, ironic and with generic ‘ghost’ clichés its possibly Patrick’s and Alice’s best movie. If you like the Stephy/Alex films, this has got essential Patrick Kong relationship themes but also a haunting backdrop the Pang Bros could have made, making for an interesting blend. Recommended. |
