J-Horror master Nakata Hideo remakes his own 1996 feature debut Don't Look Up into the 2015 supernatural thriller Ghost Theater. In this new take, Nakata transfers the haunting from a cinema to a theater where rehearsals are underway for a play about a 16th century countess who drinks blood to stay beautiful while envying her doll which will stay forever young. AKB48 member Shimazaki Haruka stars as a bit actress who takes over the lead role when the original leading actress Aoi (Takada Riho, Missing) is injured in a mysterious fall. At first, she's excited about getting her big break, but she soon discovers that Aoi's fall was no accident, and the sinister force behind the disasters plaguing the play is none other than the prop doll.

[ストーリー]
芸能事務所に入って５年、いまだ役に恵まれない若手女優・水樹沙羅（島崎遙香）は、気鋭の演出家・錦野豪太（小市慢太郎）の新作舞台に脇役で出演することに。演目は、若さを保つため少女の生き血を浴びていた実在の女貴族エリザベートの生涯を描く「鮮血の呼び声」。主演の篠原葵（高田里穂）、野村香織（足立梨花）らは火花を散らしながら連日稽古に打ち込んでいた。そんなある日、劇場でスタッフの女性が変死体で発見される。その直後、今度は葵が転落事故で意識不明の重体に。葵の降板を受け、沙羅は急きょ主演に抜擢される。ところが、稽古中に沙羅は舞台に置かれた人形が動き出すのを目撃してしまう。ただならぬ雰囲気を感じ取った沙羅と美術スタッフの和泉（町田啓太）は、人形を制作した作家を訪ねるのだが…。
