After wooing a gumiho fox spirit in My Girlfriend is a Gumiho, popular singer-actor Lee Seung Gi becomes a half-gumiho in his first period drama Gu Family Book (a.k.a. Kang Chi, the Beginning). Years ago, a kind mountain demon rescued and fell in love with a human girl, but she betrayed him when she saw his true face, leading to great tragedy. Eighteen years later, their son Kang Chi, who has grown up not knowing his own power and origin, discovers his half-demon nature. In his journey to come to terms with himself, Kang Chi will have to confront the man who destroyed his family and face the dangerous truth behind his parents.

miss A's Suzy (Big) co-stars as the sassy, steadfast swordswoman who flutters Kang Chi's heart and inspires him to keep his inner beast under control as he struggles to become human. Rising star Sung Joon (Shut Up Flower Boy Band) is her stoic bodyguard, while Lee Sung Jae (Rascal Sons) is the conniving villain who tore apart both Kang Chi's real and adopted families. Choi Jin Hyuk and Lee Yeon Hee play Kang Chi's star-crossed parents in the origin love story which left a deep impression on audiences. Jo Sung Ha, Yoo Yeon Sook (A Werewolf Boy), Lee Yoo Bi (The Innocent Man) and Yoon Se Ah (A Gentleman's Dignity) also co-star in the hit MBC period fantasy.

 LOVE the drama, don't love it's packaging Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
I really love this drama and it is one of the few that I wanted to own so when I finally recieved it in the mail I was disappointed by the DVDs packaging. The DVD set itself was packaged well, in two bubble wrapped sleeves and despite a dent in the edge (probably occurring in transit) I thought it had arrived in good condition. Once I removed the plastic wrap and opened the case I found that all 3 of the plastic DVD holders had come unglued. Luckily none of the DVDs were damaged as they all stayed in place but I had to dig out a glue gun and re-glue all the plastic DVD holders back into place. As a side note, upon watching the drama I was impressed by the English translations/subtitles in that they were accurate to the Korean meaning but translated into English interpretations and although they may not be better than the English subtitles from my viewing experince online, the new interpretation was refreshing.
Overall, the price seems about $10 too high considering the quality of the packaging but nevertheless I am glad I purchased the drama and the cheap packaging retracts nothing from the amazingness of this drama.

 Best 2013 Drama! Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
Gu Family Book is by far the best 2013 drama out this year(literally)! I had high expectations before watching the drama because I am a huge fan of Lee Seung Gi and have watched all his previous dramas like Brilliant Legacy, My Girlfriend is a gumiho, and King 2 Hearts. His acting experience from his other works really showed in this work and he flawlessly executed the funny, emotionally sad, and masculine scenes every fan wants to see from a male lead. I couldn't have been happier to have watched this drama and that is why I'm buying the box set.

While watching this drama I did not know who Bae Suzy was and I didn't know what kind of personality she would have but I was very impressed from her performance as Dam Yeo Wool. This is my first time watching a piece of her work and she captured my heart instantly. She is sweet and kind in real life, Dam Yeo Wool is no different except with a little flare.

I absolutely loved the box and dvd cases that came with the dvds. Although, one thing I did dislike and that can't be helped is the region 3 code on the dvd and that there was no subtitles for the BTS on the dvd. Other than that I am completely happy with the content on the dvd and the product as a whole.

Be prepared to be dazzled with this ridiculously fresh new drama from the two famous idols Lee Seung Gi and Bae Suzy!

This drama starred by Lee Seung Gi is so marvelous, very well made, music is great,
fantastic and LSG acted so well, as always. I hope there will be more upcoming dramas
of him. I wish him the best and I am very confident he will a great actor, singer
of all times. I have a wide collection of his works in my Korean room.
Good lucky my Lee Seung Gi, more power to you and warmest wishes for good
health, happiness and more success in all your future endeavors.

 Awsome!!! Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
This has to be the best K-Drama of all time!! I had first seen this drama online, but realized that I needed to have it physically with me. I pre-ordered the DVD set and got it in like a week. It was in great condition when I first got it and the quality of the viewing is great. Anyone who buys this DVD set wont regret it.
