In 2011, new-generation filmmaker Manny Leung made a splash with his university final year project Gwan Gong VS Alien, a campy sci-fi short that won Best Creativity at Hong Kong's Fresh Wave Festival and found cult popularity online. Selected for the Yubari International Fantastic Film Festival, Leung's latest Hong Kong Master continues in the genre vein with a futuristic action sci-fi that cheekily references local Hong Kong culture and films, and conjures plentiful special effects on a shoestring budget.

In 2047, many jobs and industries have been replaced by automation, including the triad industry. Chan Ho Tung (Mark Cheung) and his gangster buddies used to rule the streets of Mongkok, but now they too have retired to mundane lives. Ever since splitting with his girlfriend (Kiki Tam), Ho Tung has become obsessed with virtual reality games that allow him to relive his former glory. Meanwhile, his rival Kurou (Lee Man Yeung) started the East Star tech company, which works closely with the government. To deal with growing violent unrest, East Star develops a cyborg task force called Iron Head for the police. Iron Head technology can brainwash criminals into cold-blooded killing machines. Using neighborhood redevelopment as an excuse, Kurou unleashes Iron Head forces on Ho Tung and his brothers. To fight back, Ho Tung seeks out the legendary "Hong Kong Master" (Samson Lai) who fuses traditional feng shui and modern technology. Equipped with powerful weapons from Hong Kong Master, Ho Tung and company prepare for a final showdown with Kurou. However, Ho Tung discovers that the Hong Kong Master is hiding a greater conspiracy: a plan to restore the era of the triads.
