Park Yoo Chun and Yoon Eun Hye play high school sweethearts who were separated in a shocking tragedy that continues to haunt them when they meet again years later under very different circumstances. Breakout child actors Yeo Jin Gu and Kim So Hyun from The Moon That Embraces the Sun portray the protagonists in their teenage years, while Yoo Seung Ho, in his final role before entering the military, plays against type as the troubled antagonist of the moody melodrama.

Han Jung Woo (Park Yoo Chun) and Lee Soo Yeon (Yoon Eun Hye) first met and fell into puppy love when they were teenage students from opposite sides of the track. Jung Woo came from a rich and complicated family, while Soo Yeon suffered under the stigma of being a murderer's daughter. The two get kidnapped together and then separated in a horrifying tragedy that scars them both. Years later, Jung Woo has grown up to become a detective, still desperately searching for Soo Yeon. When he finally crosses paths with Soo Yeon again, she has become someone else: French fashion designer Joy, with the wealthy and calculating Harry (Yoo Seung Ho) by her side. Both Soo Yeon and Harry want their past identities buried, but the guilt-ridden Jung Woo can't let things rest. Old wounds and mysteries are reopened as the three confront the events of the past and the spiraling consequences.
