The money Jacky and co. poured into the tour is evident from the opening – a mini-musical accompanied by a multi-part short film directed by Andrew Lau (Infernal Affairs) and co-starring actress Shu Qi. Connected by ten songs from various stages of Jacky's career, the musical tells the story of two people (played by Jacky and Shu Qi) who fall in love, split up, then reunite after learning the true meaning of love. Featuring an impeccable performance by Jacky and his dancers as well as the beautifully shot video segments, the musical is a splendid start to the show.

The most interesting part of this section is that Jacky doesn't choose the most popular song, but rather the most appropriate song for his story. While there are hit songs like "You Are the Only Legend in My Life" and "Your Name, My Surname," it also includes relatively less popular songs like 1991's "Miss, What's Your Name" and 1995's "A Teardrop."

Jacky also devotes plenty of time to jazz with the concert's "Private Corner" section. In addition to songs from his Private Corner jazz album ("It's a new experiment, so I understand why it didn't sell well," joked Jacky), Jacky also put a fresh jazz spin on classics like "After You've Left" and "A Lover's Tears," showing his dedication to his latest musical endeavor.

Being the Hong Kong-staged finale of the tour, the show captured on camera also features Jacky giving plenty of love to his hometown fans by performing his beloved hits. Songs like Li Xiang Lan, "Love You More Everyday" and "Blessing" are practically the staple of every Jacky Cheung tour, but it's even more amazing that Jacky still has the energy to dance and sing by the third hour of the 200-minute concert.

In 2007, I attended the Hong Kong show of Jacky's Year of Jacky Cheung tour. Typical of a traditional Hong Kong Coliseum audience, people began filing out in the middle of the final song so that they can get to public transportation before everyone else. Yet, Jacky continued to perform to the very end, appearing unfazed and thanking his (remaining) audience until the final bow. That professionalism is once again evident in the 1/2 Century Tour, a grand and entertaining concert that no Jacky Cheung fan should miss.
