Johnny's idols Kimura Takuya and Ninomiya Kazunari collaborate on screen for the first time in Killing for the Prosecution! Harada Masato (The Emperor in August) directs the courtroom suspense film based on the 2013 novel Kensatsugawa no Zainin by Shizukue Shusuke. Kimura, who famously played an eccentric, upright public prosecutor in the Hero series, takes on a grayer role this time as a veteran prosecutor facing a moral dilemma. The tense legal procedural also co-stars Yoshitaka Yuriko (Yurigokoro), Matsushige Yutaka (Midnight Diner), Hira Takehiro (Sekigahara), Okura Koji (Recall) and Yamazaki Tsutomu.
Okino (Ninomiya Kazunari), a young prosecutor in the Tokyo District Public Prosecutor's Office, looks up to elite veteran Mogami (Kimura Takuya) as a mentor. The two are assigned to a murder case whose suspect was previously implicated in an infamous schoolgirl murder case that has passed its statute of limitations. Okino's doubts about Mogami's handling of the investigation leads to a standoff between the two prosecutors over where justice lies.
