Kitaro and the Millennium Curse (VCD) (Hong Kong Version) VCD

Mizuki Shigeru's popular manga series Gegege no Kitaro traveled to the silver screen in 2007 with a blockbuster live-action adaptation that pulled over 2.3 billion yen (US$25 million) at the box office. Unsurprisingly, the sequel Gegege no Kitaro 2 - Sennen Noroi Uta (a.k.a. Kitaro and the Millennium Curse), again directed by Motoki Katsuhide, followed quickly in 2008, set in the same fanciful world populated by yokai, demon spirits with supernatural powers. Wentz Eiji of WaT reprises his role as half-human, half-yokai hero Kitaro, who takes it upon himself to resolve the problems that arise when human and yokai collide in modern-day Japan.

While the first installment of Gegege no Kitaro was an action fantasy family film for all ages, the sequel appeals even more to older audiences with darker themes and storyline, and the same visually stunning array of fantastic creatures and special effects. This time Kitaro and his friends are investigating a series of mysterious disappearances. They stumble upon a yokai conspiracy and a cursed cycle that dates back 1000 years. Tanaka Rena (Giniro no Season) and Oizumi Yo (After School) return as Kitaro's yokai buddies, along with new additions like Terajima Shinobu (Vibrator), Sano Shiro (The Glorious Team Batista), singer Nakagawa Shoko, late veteran actor Ogata Ken in his final film appearance, and teen actress Kitano Kii (Kofuku na Shokutaku), stepping in as the new heroine.
