Arashi member Sakurai Sho (The After-Dinner Mysteries) investigates a mysterious series of onsen deaths in Miike Takashi's suspense film Laplace's Witch. Based on Higashino Keigo's 2015 novel, the curious mystery rounds up an all-star cast that also includes Hirose Suzu (The Third Murder), Fukushi Sota (Bleach), Tamaki Hiroshi (Nodame Cantabile), Toyokawa Etsushi (Platinum Data), Shida Mirai (The Many Faces of Ito), Sato Eriko (R100) and Lily Franky (The Shoplifters).

An elderly man visiting the hot springs for the first time with his wife passes away from hydrogen sulfide poisoning. Detective Nakaoka (Tamaki Hiroshi), who is in charge of the investigation, suspects the wife of murdering her husband for the inheritance. After conducting an on-site inspection, geochemistry expert Aoe Shusuke (Sakurai Sho) posits that it is impossible to devise and execute such a murder plan because of the unstable atmospheric conditions outdoors. However, a few days later, a similar death by hydrogen sulfide poisoning occurs elsewhere. If the two deaths are actually serial murders, that would mean the culprit can accurately predict natural phenomena. During his investigation, Aoe meets Madoka (Hirose Suzu), a mysterious woman who correctly foretells a natural phenomenon. Now the prime suspect in the case, she wants Aoe's help finding a young man (Fukushi Sota) who holds the key to the secrets.
