Directed by Lai Cheng Ying, the 1979 Taiwan classic Lotus in Fall is a romance drama starring late songstress Fong Fei Fei. Zhie Jie (Kao Hsing Chih) took in helpless orphan Chu Lien (Fong Fei Fei) as a child bride for her son, but treats her poorly in every way. Only Shun Xing (Liang Hsiu Shen) stands up for her, and Chu Lien secretly vows to be with him. However, Zhie Jie marries gambler Xiong (Ko Chun Hsiung), who harbors evil intentions. When he tries to assault Chu Lien, he ends up accidentally killing Zhie Jie's son who rushed to stop him. Xiong blames the death on Shun Xing, pushing the desperate lovers into a hopeless situation.
