Rock and Song, mood full, romantic, fun and okay
I’ve honestly never seen this movie until now, and for me this relates to checking out Stephy Tang movies on link and purchasing a small number I originally missed out on. Like “Feel 1oo% 2003” and only the other day I watched “Dating Death” and now this Kary and Alex movie (with Stephy as well). Interesting Gary Numan is mentioned at the beginning in Kristy’s (Kary) second hand vinyl record shop. (I’ve still got my TPP LP). “Love….” although certainly a simple and average type HK ‘teen’ movie, it’s lifted by the varying music segments of rock and romantic ballads and the less frantic pacing and decent romance scenario. It’s easy to get pleasantly stirred by the ‘We’re Gonna Rock’ rock melody and also Tony’s “Romantic” ballad and the song for Justin, “Love Song”. Centering on teenager Kristy (dressed in punky black) who lives with her depressed, drunk and guilt ridden dad (Lam Suet), the plot rides the angst of this young unhappy girl about her depressing home situation, her looks, but lifted by her childhood mate Ki (Justin) who tries to keep Kristy afloat. But then suave rich kid Tony (Alex) takes interest in Kristy when first seeing her in the record store she works in. They date, but Tony only desires to get serious with singing music in a rock band he admires, and Kristy a means to an end. But when Kristy’s skills as a keyboard player are fused along with Tony and childhood mate Ki in a band, self worth and true understanding begin to blossom for them all. Along with songs and romance it's also what’s truly important, such as what these kids would prefer to do with their time instead of getting pressure to merely make money. Rich kid Tony is no cad and reveals his heart about his parent’s future decisions for him, which he desires the freedom of life over money.
It doesn’t delve too deeply as this is a simple romance of rock and song and Kristy dealing with how others perceive her uncertain self and ultimately finding a good loving friend. Stephy and Theresa play low-key roles as two almost twin like pranksters. With Kristy’s unfortunate bucket incident I can see where some were coming from by the reference to the ‘Carrie’ horror movie. Miki has an illusive none speaking part, but it was interesting in a way – especially how it ended. This film may be out of vogue considering it was made in 2006 (and Cookies aren’t 4 playing anymore), but if you love Asia pop trends, and you haven’t seen this film, you could be pleasantly surprised here. |

I loved this movie also the music
I loved this movie also the music
I was so glad that I ordered this movie. I didn't know anyone in this movie so I was pleasantly surprised to really enjoy it. The music really makes this movie. I not familiar with alot of Asian actors or singers only a few mandarin but even though this movie has canto music I really felt it was good. Justin Lo is the main guy who likes to write lyrics and doesn't really know that he can sing. His best friend is Kristy. She is a cool girl. I really liked her. They have been friends since childhood and they are both growing up in a single parent household. Even though the movie doesn't really focus on the relationship's they have with their parents, the little they do show is really nice. I think the movie should have given more to us on the relationships that are growing but I guess the movie wants to focus on the music. But it does let you know what happens to everbody. It's a reall cute and clean movie. Young people and middle age plus good music. See this movie! I can't stop watching it! |

didnt really like the movie, but i'ld rate it 5/10 cause of the songs in the movie. i agree with the other reviewers: the soundtrack was MUCH nicer than the movie itself.
the whole movie was only about music and there wasnt much content in it. although the songs were great, the acting was only so-so (even though i liked the cast), and the plot wasnt fanastic either. some parts of it were quite redundant actually. but if you are a great fan of the actors and the music, i suppose you might like the movie for these reasons :) |

it was OKAY
it was OKAY
it's true that the movie does focus more on the main leads' songs rather than the plot. u hear more songs playing than acting...and the acting for the main leads were okay, since it is their first time. for the movie, it felt like they are trying too hard to try to add other singers in the film, so it didn't really flow that well. but overall, it's a okay movie to watch |
