YesAsia Editorial Description

In recent years, the "Korean Wave" has invaded multiple aspects of the Japanese entertainment world. Now, it invades the adult video world in the hilarious erotic comedy Love & Seoul (a.k.a. AV Idol). Starring real-life adult actress Tatsumi Yui as AV idol Ryoko, Love & Seoul follows a small adult film crew looking for fresh ideas for their latest project and decides to use South Korea as their latest destination. While the 4-person crew goes on the hunt for a male star, they encounter Yuna (Yeon Min Jeong), a naïve, young kimchi stand owner who wants to be a star. She mistakenly believes Ryoko to be a superstar and joins the production, an adult film parody of Winter Sonata.

Why did they tack on that stupid ending? Customer Review Rated Bad 4 - 4 out of 10
"AV Idol" (a.k.a. "Love & Seoul") has an improbable yet engaging story to tell in its first 76 minutes. Unfortunately, at that point, the movie still has another 25 minutes to run. The movie tells of Yuna (Yeon Min Jeong), a sweet young Korean woman who runs a food mart and takes care of her Alzheimer's-suffering granny. Yuna yearns for an entirely different life. Having grown up listening to her mother sing a Japanese pop song, Yuna has longed to become a Japanese idol singer, a dream for which she has no apparent aptitude.

Into Yuna's life stumbles drunken Ryoko (Tatsumi Yui), a Japanese AV performer. She and a 3-person film crew have come to Seoul to make a novelty video in which Ryoko 'performs' with random Korean men plucked off of Seoul's streets. Yuna misunderstands when Ryoko euphemistically describes herself as an 'idol'. Yuna persuades Ryoko to introduce her to the film crew. When the crew's director meets Yuna, he is inspired to cast her in a very clumsy AV adaptation of "Winter Sonata". Yuna's clueless participation in this inept production is amusing and handled relatively tastefully, given the film's subject matter. The story reaches a touching culmination in which Ryoko comes clean about her profession and about what awaits Yuna in the production.

While the film is crudely made on what obviously was a low budget, the story works well to this point. However, director Jojo Hideo isn't finished. He next tosses in two pointless, gratuitous, and unnecessarily explicit sex scenes, then wraps things up with an ill-conceived and unnecessary subplot involving two Korean gangsters. If you choose to watch "AV Idol", then I strongly recommend you turn the movie off at the 76 minute mark. Leave feeling unsoiled by the movie's badly mistaken ending.
