Lovelyz 2nd Mini Album [A New Trilogy]
러블리즈는 지난해 12월 발표한 싱글앨범 ‘Lovelinus(러블리너스)'이후 4개월 만에 컴백을 선언하고 두 번째 미니 앨범 [A New Trilogy]로 돌아왔다.
2014년 데뷔한 러블리즈는 데뷔곡 ‘Candy Jelly Love’ 부터 '안녕(Hi~), ‘Ah-Choo’ 까지 윤상을 중심으로 한 프로듀싱 팀 원피스(OnePiece)와 함께 소녀의 풋풋한 사랑의 감정에 대해 노래하고 소녀스러우면서도 동시에 음악적인 무게 중심을 탄탄하게 이어오면서 지난해 10월 발표한 ‘아츄(Ah-Choo)’로 현재까지도 차트에서 큰 사랑을 받으며 걸그룹 음원차트 롱런의 아이콘으로 자리매김하며 차세대 걸그룹 대표주자임을 증명했다.
지금까지도 ‘러블리즈’ 하면 대표적으로 꼽히는 히트넘버 곡들로 환상의 시너지를 발휘한 프로듀싱 팀 원피스(OnePiece)와 러블리즈가 다시 한 번 의기투합한 이번 미니앨범이 안팎의 이목을 끌며 다시금 날개를 펼 준비를 끝냈다.
지난해 발표한 첫 번째 싱글앨범 [Lovelinus]를 통해 지친 이들에게 위로와 용기를 주는 힐링송 으로 긍정의 힘을 전하는 사랑스러운 소녀들이었다면, 이번 두 번째 미니앨범 [A New Trilogy]의 러블리즈는 상큼하고 풋풋했던 모습을 간직하면서도 소녀에서 숙녀로 거듭난 성숙한 모습과 호소력 있는 목소리로 완성도 높은 퍼포먼스 또한 보여줄 것이다.
'러블리즈' 의 두 번째 미니 앨범 [A New Trilogy] 은 타이틀곡 'Destiny (나의 지구)'를 비롯해 '퐁당' '책갈피' '1cm' '마음 (*취급주의)','인형' 등 총 7곡이 수록되어 있다.
타이틀 곡 'Destiny (나의 지구)' 는 윤상을 주축으로 한 프로듀싱 팀 원피스(OnePiece) 작곡, 전간디 작사 곡으로 프로듀싱 팀 원피스(OnePiece)가 또 한 번 러블리즈를 위한 특별한 선물 같은 노래를 선사해 큰 기대를 모으고 있다.
이번 두 번째 미니 앨범은 러블리즈에게 또 다른 시작이자 변화의 시발점이 될 것으로 보인다. 꾸준히 변화를 추구해 오고 있는 러블리즈가 이번엔 또 어떤 역사를 만들어갈지 이들의 새로운 3부작의 시작에 귀추가 주목된다.

Lovelyz's cute and adorable image with a touch of fantasy makes them stand out from the rest of the girl groups. Taking listeners to an imaginary world, their music has the power of relieving stress. To establish the cute style of Lovelyz, eight girls with lovable voices were brought together. Though A New Trilogy follows the usual lovable style of their previous albums, it does find a way to diversify the cute style with maturity, allowing them to survive in the ever-changing Korean music industry which requires freshness all the time.
With various melodies joining each other layer by layer to push the emotion to the top, the appealing, musically rich intro Moonrise (Track 1) seamlessly connects to the title track Destiny (Track 2). To echo the theme "You are my Earth / The center of my day," Destiny creates a feeling of circular movement with heavy use of syncopated rhythms in the background and layers of strong strings and bell synths. Featuring mainly synths and strings, the track strikes a good balance between smoothness and funkiness. With its strong musical hooks, Destiny is even more powerful and sensational than last year's hit song Ah-Choo. The same circular feeling occurs in the final track "Doll" (Track 7). Set in triple meter, the song resembles the waltz, bringing listeners into a doll's imagination of dancing with the one she loves. In the playful 1 cm (Track 5), the excitement of getting close to a lover is expressed by the Pac-Man-like synth backing. The same synth elements are also present in the sweet confession song "Fondant" (Track 3), which first starts with a smooth string opening followed by lively percussion accompaniment. The album's vibrant mood maintains in "Heart (*Handle with Care)" (Track 6). After the refreshing piano intro with synth effects, the cool and catchy electric guitar riffs enter and set an energetic atmosphere for the song. The bridge in which members take turns singing out the hearts of girls in love is well composed but doesn't link the chorus to the verse very well. It's not just this song; the same problem also occurs in Destiny and "Fondant," indicating that there's ample room for improvement in song development. The Lovelyz members' sweet and soft voices with similar vocal range are essential in forming their unique lovable style, but such vocal qualities also limit them from performing other genres like rap or powerful pop music. That is why Baby Soul’s rap part in "Bookmark" (Track 4) is strange. However, the limitation doesn't bother them since they have found a new direction to develop their cute style in this album which marks a new stage in their music career. Featuring strong tracks like Destiny, "1 cm" and "Doll" with dynamic music arrangements, A New Trilogy is definitely a successful album to begin Lovelyz's new trilogy project. |
