Tamaki Hiroshi (MW, Nodame Cantabile) stars in the World War II era naval action film Last Operations Under the Orion (a.k.a. Manatsu no Orion). Based on an Ikegami Tsukasa novel and directed by Shinohara Tetsuo (Riding the Metro), the film alternates between the past and present, linked by a fateful song. Rising actress Kitagawa Keiko (Buzzer Beat) takes dual roles as Tamaki's love interest and his granddaughter. Last Operations Under the Orion also co-stars Hiraoka Yuta (Swing Girls), Kikawada Masaya (God's Puzzle), Masuoka Toru (K-20), and Dochin Yoshikuni of J-pop duo CHEMISTRY in his acting debut.

Captain Kuromato Takayuki (Tamaki Hiroshi) and his submarnine crew are engaged in battle with an American destroyer off the coast of Okinawa. Before heading to the frontline, he receives from his lover Shiduko (Kitagawa Keiko) a final present, the score to a song titled Manatsu no Orion. Sixty-four years later, Takayuki and Shiduko's granddaughter (Kitagawa Keiko) discovers the score and the signifance behind the song.

This edition comes with a bonus DVD containing special program, making of, premiere, stage greeting, and previews.

[ストーリー]
現代・・教員をめざす倉本いずみ（北川景子）のもとに、アメリカから、差出人の祖父の遺品という楽譜が添えられた１通の手紙が届いた。その楽譜は、いずみの祖母・有沢志津子が戦時中に書いたものだった。いずみは１枚の楽譜を頼りに、６４年の時を紐解くことになる……。１９４５（昭和２０）年８月。第二次世界大戦末期、沖縄南東海域・・米軍の本土上陸が近い今、日本海軍はこの海域に最後の防衛ラインともいえる潜水艦隊を配備する。共に作戦に参加する潜水艦「イ−７７」の艦長・倉本孝行（玉木宏）と「イ−８１」の艦長・有沢義彦（堂珍嘉邦）は海軍兵学校からの親友であり、倉本は有沢の妹・志津子（北川景子＝二役）とも互いに想いを寄せ合う仲だった。出航前、志津子は倉本に、愛する人の帰還を願って『真夏のオリオン』と題された自作の楽譜を手渡した……。倉本たちが迎え撃つのは、マイク・スチュワート艦長率いる米海軍駆逐艦パーシバル。命を賭した戦いの中でも、生きる希望を決して失わないイ−７７艦長・倉本と、水面下の敵を徹底的に追い詰める駆逐艦パーシバル艦長スチュワート。互いに知力と体力の限りをつくした戦いの火蓋が切って落とされた。
