Max Zhang made a show-stealing turn as a Wing Chun master who challenged Donnie Yen in Ip Man 3. The martial arts star now returns again as Cheung Tin Chi to headline his own spin-off feature Master Z: Ip Man Legacy. Set after the events of Ip Man 3, this film may not have Donnie Yen – who produced but does not appear onscreen – but it still boasts top action pedigree. Directed by the legendary Yuen Woo Ping, Master Z sees Zhang sparring with Michelle Yeoh, Dave Bautista and Tony Jaa!

Since his duel with Ip Man, Cheung Tin Chi (Max Zhang) has left his fighting days behind and settled down to an ordinary life with his son. One day, he runs into debt-ridden opium addict Nana (Chrissie Chau) and single-handedly saves her from a gang of goons sent out by Tso Sai Kit (Kevin Cheng). In retaliation, the mobster burns down Tin Chi's home and shop. Kit's older sister Kwan (Michelle Yeoh), who is transitioning the family syndicate to legal business, tries to settle the dispute peacefully. However, Kit seeks further revenge and expands into drug dealing, forcing Tin Chi to take action.

Product Information

After giving up Wing Chun, Cheung Tin Chi ran into trouble with the local triad and had his home burnt to th eground. He took shelter on Bar Street and found solace from the neighbors. But when he discovered the triad was peddling drugs on Bar Street, Tin Chin took it upon himself to intervene. When the drug lord sought revenge and killed Tin Chi's friends, he decided to take on the drug lord in a final showdown.

Good spin-off Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
The fourth and spin-off of the 2015 Ip Man 3,Master Z-The Ip man legacy still has plenty of bite in the franchise.The Ip man films have been a hit ,one after another because the filmmakers kept the successful formula while keeping the action and its execution fresh. Though the stories have been told before they still come across as fresh and convincing.
Master Z can stand alone without anything known about the three Ip Man films.The film has quite a few innovative action set pieces.The fights on the scaffolding and on the signs that cover the top of the building are impressive.It also has a good cameo from Thai fighter Tony Jaa and the best fight scenes in the film are when Master z fights Jaa for the second time and the fight between Master z and Dave Bautista.
For a martial arts picture Master Z is above average and I was not expecting to like it and for me this and the first Ip Man film which had Donnie Yen are the best in the series.
