Animated anthology Modest Heroes is the second film from Studio Ponoc, the animation house founded by former Studio Ghibli producer Nishimura Yoshiaki. The first volume of the studio's Ponoc Short Films Theatre series features three magical and moving shorts directed by Yonebayashi Hiromasa (Mary and the Witch's Flower) and former Ghibli animators Momose Yoshiyuki and Yamashita Akihiko. The anthology explores courage and humanity through small yet momentous stories of Modest Heroes.
Yonebayashi Hiromasa's Kanini & Kanino follows two crab siblings who live underwater with their father. When their father gets carried away downstream, Kanini and Kanino set out on a perilous adventure to reunite their family. In Momose Yoshiyuki's Life Ain't Gonna Lose, a young baseball-loving boy battles his deadly allergy to eggs on a daily basis. An invisible man lives unnoticed by the world around him in Yamashita Akihiko's Invisible.
