Nagasawa Masami gives a Japan Academy Prize-winning performance as a troubled single mother in the acclaimed drama Mother directed by Omori Tatsushi (Every Day a Good Day). Inspired by a real incident, the film examines the complicated, draining relationship between a negligent yet controlling mother and a son unable to leave her hold, played by teen actor Okudaira Daiken. The film also co-stars Abe Sado, Kaho and Nakano Taiga.

Akiko (Nagasawa Masami) is a woman who lives recklessly in the moment, and easily gets into relationships with men. She has alienated her mother and sister with her inconsiderate temper, but demands absolute loyalty from her own son, Shuhei (Okudaira Daiken). Growing up in an isolated world, the teenage boy knows only of his mother's distorted form of love. This toxic bond leads to a murder case...
