　　戰勝那些歧視我的人的唯一方式，就是努力過得比他們都幸福。

　　全心全意只想照顧好家庭的外籍媳婦瓊娥，不僅需挑起夫家的農事家事，另一方面還得照顧寡言，老被學校誤以為有自閉症的女兒玉蘋。生活壓力讓分身乏術的她，對於婆婆希望她再生個兒子傳宗接代的要求，不知所措…。

　　唯一值得開心的是，學校的孫老師發現玉蘋不凡的繪畫天分，常在課後輔導玉蘋，瓊娥也漸漸跟個性豪爽的孫老師成為好姊妹。但一個暑假後，孫老師就被調到台東都蘭，瓊娥又失去了可以傾吐心事的朋友。

　　而此時，瓊娥的丈夫天福，工作則是每況愈下。先是重金投資泰國蝦養殖計畫，失敗後又轉而種植有機農作，卻沒想到一場秋颱，讓所有的美夢一夕粉碎，天福從此每日借酒澆愁。夫家生活的不順遂再加上婆婆對她的外籍身分一直充滿懷疑和惡意，終於在某次爭吵後，瓊娥決定帶玉蘋離家，朝著東海岸，孫老師的方向而去…
